Sifos Technologies Highlights MPD-600 PoE Compliance Testing Platform in Tolly Group Analyst Preview

The Sifos MPD-600 PoE testing platform is designed to verify powered device compliance through multi-port testing, automated fault detection and network-integrated diagnostics.
As Power over Ethernet (PoE) continues to expand its role in supporting access points, IP phones, security cameras and a growing range of IoT devices, ensuring device compliance with evolving standards has become increasingly important. In a recent episode of The Tolly Group Analyst Preview, analyst Kevin Tolly examined the capabilities of the Sifos Technologies MPD-600, a rack-mountable PoE test instrument designed to help identify compliance issues before devices are deployed in production environments.
According to the preview, the MPD-600 is a six-port testing platform built to evaluate powered devices against PoE specifications. The system is intended for use by IT teams, systems integrators and manufacturers seeking to verify compliance before deployment.
The instrument supports simultaneous six-port testing across all PoE power classes, ranging from legacy Class 0 devices through Class 8 devices at up to 71 watts. The platform also enables voltage flexibility testing at 43V, 49V and 55VDC, allowing users to simulate deployment conditions that can result from both long and short cable runs.
The MPD-600 includes automatic violation detection capabilities designed to identify failures related to inrush current, maintain power signature verification and class-specific power policing. These functions help determine when and how a device fails to meet specifications.
During the analyst preview, Tolly also discussed the platform’s three testing modes: Plug 'n Test, Group Interop Test and Diagnostic PD Test. The modes are designed to support a range of use cases from rapid field verification to extended testing intended to capture intermittent faults.
The system incorporates dedicated Gigabit Ethernet ports that allow technicians to manage and interact with powered devices over the network while testing is underway. In addition, the MPD-600 supports automation through PowerShell MPD, Tcl/Tk and C/C++/Python APIs, providing options for organizations seeking to integrate PoE qualification testing into production environments.
The analyst preview emphasized the growing importance of PoE compliance testing as standards advance from IEEE 802.3at to IEEE 802.3bt, which supports up to 90 watts per port. The MPD-600 is designed to help organizations identify non-compliant devices before they are deployed across multiple sites, reducing the challenges associated with discovering specification issues in the field.
