Everon has announced a strategic collaboration with Teledyne FLIR to deliver a thermal imaging solution designed to provide early warning fire detection and monitoring for commercial applications.
The collaboration will bring FLIR’s UL 2684- and NFPA 72-compliant thermal imaging technology to Everon customers. FLIR received UL certification for its A-Series thermal imaging cameras in September, enabling the combined solution to address fire and life safety code requirements for initiating devices under Chapter 17 of NFPA 72 and inspection, testing and maintenance under Chapter 14.
The thermal imaging system is designed to identify abnormal heat signatures and developing fire-related thermal events, providing early warning notifications while initiating a fire alarm event directly at the fire alarm control panel.
The solution offers configurable alarm settings, including fixed temperature thresholds, rate-of-temperature-rise alarms and percentage-of-change notifications. Individual cameras can also monitor multiple zones or areas of interest simultaneously.
According to the companies, the ability to cover larger areas with a single thermal camera can reduce the number of traditional detection devices required while simplifying system design and ongoing maintenance.
Potential applications include battery energy storage systems (BESS), energy production and utilities, data centers, warehouses, distribution centers, rooftop solar installations, manufacturing facilities, food and beverage operations and recycling and waste management facilities.
“Working with FLIR on this solution represents a major advancement in how early fire detection and life safety systems can be designed and deployed,” said Ryan Sandler, vice president of fire and life safety for Everon. “By combining Everon’s deep expertise in code compliant fire and life safety integration with FLIR’ s proven thermal imaging technology, we’re helping customers detect thermal events earlier, respond faster, and reduce risk – particularly in complex, high hazard environments.”
Kyle McKinney, vice president of America sales for FLIR Advanced & Integrated Systems, emphasized the importance of detecting developing thermal events before they escalate.
“When it comes to fire detection, the value comes down to one thing: time,” McKinney said. “By enabling earlier detection of developing thermal events, FLIR's UL-Listed thermal imaging solution gives organizations more time to respond before a fire impacts people, assets, and operations.”
