Increase in security focuses on perimeter barriers and vehicle redirection

Bosses at Glasgow Airport today branded the terror attack a "despicable and cowardly" act and vowed to further tighten security.

More than 300 steel bollards will be installed outside the main terminal by Christmas and the forecourt will reopen to public transport early in the New Year.

It's the final phase of a GBP4million spend organised following the botched bomb plot .

Managing director Amanda McMillan said:

"That the perpetrators failed is a tribute to the many staff, airport workers, emergency service personnel and passengers who responded so quickly, and so bravely." The inner forecourt has been closed to all vehicles since the attack, and only buses have been able to access the outer forecourt.

Shortly after the attack , a Government report recommended "robust physical barriers" around airports and other public buildings.

The main terminal repair bill was GBP2m, with GBP2m more spent on extra security measures.
