Garrett Metal Detectors has released the Vortex CSI, a purpose-built metal detector designed to support crime scene investigators and law enforcement professionals in locating and recovering metallic evidence such as bullets and shell casings worldwide.

Developed from Garrett’s existing Vortex series of ground search detectors, the Vortex CSI combines a durable, lightweight design with multifrequency detection technology aimed at improving performance across varying terrain conditions. The unit is waterproof to 16 feet and incorporates features intended to help investigators distinguish key targets from irrelevant metallic debris at complex scenes.

The detector is equipped with simple, ergonomic controls that can be operated with one hand, and includes detection modes specifically tuned for bullets and steel casings. A USB-C rechargeable battery provides up to 15 hours of operation to support extended field use, and a backlit display aids searches in low-light environments.

Optional wired or wireless headphone connectivity aims to help operators maintain focus and reduce distractions in busy settings such as outdoor investigations or crowded scenes. The unit also incorporates an automatic ground balance feature to compensate for soil interference, helping maintain detection accuracy across different surfaces.

Garrett positions the Vortex CSI as part of its ongoing commitment to the crime scene investigation market, following earlier products such as the CSI 250 and CSI Pro models. According to the company’s CEO, the new detector combines updated software with field-oriented design to meet the performance and usability needs of today’s law enforcement technicians.

The Vortex CSI is available for sale and shipment globally either as a standalone unit or as part of Garrett’s Vortex CSI Field Kit. The detector and associated equipment were developed at Garrett’s Garland, Texas facility and are covered with appropriate patent and trademark protections.
