Smiths Detection, a provider of trace detection equipment, has been selected by the TSA to test the company's new walk-through explosive detection portal, the Sentinel II, at the Jacksonville International Airport.
The test, which begins prior to the Super Bowl, will examine the Sentinel II's accuracy and its impact on terminal operations. The device works by gently pushing air across the body to lift off particles from a person's clothing or body. The particles are then sent into the instrument for an analysis. The particles can then indicate whether the person is carrying or has been in contact with explosives.
