OSI detection systems division signs one-year service and training contract for its Secure 1000 screener

HAWTHORNE, Calif. - Rapiscan Systems, a division of OSI Systems, Inc., announced the receipt of a one-year $2.2 million service and training contract for its Rapiscan Secure 1000 personnel screeners. The contract, which contains extension options for the customer, relates to previously delivered Rapiscan Secure 1000 personnel screeners.

President of Rapiscan Systems Ajay Mehra stated, "On-going service and training is an integral component of Rapiscan Systems' revenue model. We are pleased to be able to continue the relationship with this key customer and look to build upon our market leading position in the backscatter people screening market."

Rapiscan Systems' proprietary backscatter X-ray technology is embedded within the Rapiscan Secure 1000 personnel screener, a non-intrusive system designed to detect metallic and nonmetallic threat objects. The unit enables security personnel to detect ceramic, plastic, metallic, organic, and other contraband or security threats. It also provides a comprehensive body search in seconds, eliminating the need for intrusive and less-effective hands-on body searches by security personnel.

Most recently, Rapiscan Systems announced that multiple Rapiscan Secure 1000 personnel screeners were purchased by the BAA plc (formerly the British Airport Authority) for installation at Heathrow Airport - marking the first civilian aviation deployment of the backscatter technology.
