ORLANDO, Fla. --
A Bank of America ATM on South Kirkman Road was rigged with a skimmer, Orlando police said. Police said they are searching for two men who they believe installed the skimming device.
Police said the device was stealing people's credit and debit card numbers since 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Surveillance pictures taken from the bank show the two men installing a specialized and highly illegal machine to steal personal information.
"The machine on the ATM was actually a skimmer that records peoples' credit card numbers as well as, sometimes, their pin numbers," said Sgt. Vincent Ogburn of the Orlando Police Department.
"I think that's awful, really. I'm very nervous to get this news because I mean, I may wake up in the morning and there's no money left in my bank account," said a bank customer.
Bank officials caught on to the scam quickly and removed the device. Orlando police said that so far, they have not had any reports of money missing from accounts, but that might just be because people have not checked yet.
Orlando police said they are looking to see if similar devices have been set up anywhere else around town.
"Well usually when crimes like this happen, they hit more than one place. They may be hitting the Kirkman Road area, they may put one on I-Drive or one of the surrounding areas there," said Ogburn.
Anyone who believes they have been victimized is asked to call the Orlando Police Department.
