The Chilean subsidiary of IBM has rolled out a solution for the local banking sector aimed at combating a wave of criminal attacks on ATMs, IBM de Chile said in a press release.

This year Chile has seen a big jump in violent assaults on ATMs that recently prompted the government to call on banks to improve their security measures.

IBM's Cash Secure solution colors bills with a chemical when an ATM is assaulted and it can also be used during money transports. The release said Chile's central bank will give banks opting to use the solution new bills for the ones destroyed by the chemical during an ATM assault.

IBM de Chile said it is already in talks with some banks and expects the solution to be installed at ATMs across the country starting in the next few weeks.
