Kwikset Launches Halifax Occupancy Indicator Lever for Enhanced Bathroom Privacy
Kwikset’s Halifax Occupancy Indicator Lever features a red and green visual display to indicate bathroom availability from a distance.
Kwikset, part of ASSA ABLOY, has introduced the Halifax Occupancy Indicator Lever, a new privacy-focused solution designed to help prevent bathroom interruptions in residential and commercial settings.
The new lever, part of Kwikset’s Halifax product line, features a built-in occupancy indicator that displays red when locked and green when unlocked. Visible from up to 40 feet away, the indicator provides a clear visual cue, allowing users to determine whether a space is in use without knocking.
Kwikset said the product is suited for a range of environments, including multigenerational homes, shared bathrooms and small business settings such as restaurants, dental offices, salons and leasing offices, where privacy visibility can improve comfort for both customers and staff.
The lever is engineered for durability, having been tested to withstand 500,000 opening and closing cycles. It is also certified Grade AAA by BHMA for security, durability and finish, positioning it for high-traffic applications. A premium chassis is designed to maintain alignment and reduce wobble over time, supporting consistent performance.
Installation is designed to be straightforward, with the reversible lever fitting standard doors between 1 3/8 and 1 3/4 inches thick. An adjustable latch accommodates both 2 3/8-inch and 2 3/4-inch backsets, and all necessary hardware and instructions are included. To reduce the risk of accidental lockouts, the lever includes an external release tool and can also be opened with a small flathead screwdriver.
The Halifax design incorporates clean lines and a modern aesthetic, available in Satin Nickel and Matte Black finishes. The product also features built-in Microban antimicrobial protection, which helps inhibit the growth of bacteria on the surface.
