Rockwood PDU8000/8500 Panic Device Request-to-Exit from ASSA ABLOY

monitors exit activity, accurately logging when a user activates the device's push bar.

New, patent-pending Request-to-Exit (REX) functionality is now available on Rockwood's multi-certified, code-compliant PDU8000 and PDU8500 tubular panic devices.

This intelligent technology effectively monitors exit activity, accurately logging when a user activates the device's push bar. This future-forward capability allows building owners, facility managers, and security teams to track and distinguish authorized exits from potential security concerns, supporting modern safety and access control across retail, healthcare, education, and commercial environments where transparency, aesthetics, and compliance are critical.

With growing pressure on all industry parties to improve security visibility, this functionality enhances facility protection without compromising life-safety or design. Traditional panic hardware, without this feature, allows for free egress but does not provide insight into when or how those exits are used.

The development of this recent enhancement was substantially supported by the broader ASSA ABLOY organization, as similar technology has already been successfully implemented into other exit hardware products from the company. Product, operations, and brand teams partnered closely with other internal departments to meticulously configure and rigorously test this function to ensure proper performance and reliability.

Integrating this component into a compact, L-shaped panic device offered new challenges, but its precise incorporation delivers effective usage without visible wiring or hardware. Through a disciplined, iterative approach, the team was able to seamlessly merge this electronic option with mechanical hardware, helping to shape and drive the next generation of access control.
