The Security Industry Association (SIA) has partnered with AMAG Technology to launch a new training program focused on the Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP).

The program is designed to expand education around OSDP, an access control communications standard intended to improve security, system efficiency and interoperability across security products. The training targets integrators, government and corporate security teams, consultants and other security professionals involved in designing, specifying, configuring and maintaining OSDP systems.

The partnership introduces a tiered educational program that provides sales and marketing professionals with foundational training on OSDP and its advantages compared with legacy protocols such as Wiegand. Technical training for installers and operators will cover device setup, configuration and troubleshooting through a combination of AMAG technical courses and the SIA OSDP Boot Camp.

Participants who complete the training will earn a SIA OSDP Certified badge.

“All of the leading access, identity and credential companies have adopted OSDP as their primary secure communications protocol. But building the technology is only half the battle: consultants and commercial teams need to know how to lead with it, and technical professionals need to know how to install and commission it correctly,” said Kyle Gordon, executive vice president of global revenue and customer experience at AMAG Technology.

Gordon said AMAG is the first manufacturer to incorporate SIA-certified OSDP training into its core curriculum.

The program also is intended to help security professionals educate customers about OSDP and guide organizations through upgrades from legacy access control systems.

“Expanding OSDP technical education is crucial for the security industry’s future,” said Dr. Elli Reges, director of learning and development for SIA and executive director for the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST). “This partnership will play a vital role in reaching end-users directly, ensuring they not only understand the benefits of OSDP but also have the hands-on knowledge needed to install and maintain systems effectively.”

Reges added that providing stakeholders with the necessary skills can support the development of safer and more reliable access control systems.

According to SIA, the training initiative is intended to provide security professionals with knowledge, resources and training for understanding and implementing OSDP as organizations transition from legacy access control technologies.
