HID, based in Austin, Texas, announced that it has acquired inepro ID, a provider of contactless authentication solutions for secure print release and identity management.
The acquired business was part of inepro Group, a Dutch technology company headquartered in Nieuw-Vennep. It now joins HID’s Identification Technologies business area alongside the company’s OMNIKEY authentication portfolio.
Founded in the 1990s, inepro ID specializes in RFID and Bluetooth Low Energy authentication for facility management and identification. Its solutions are used primarily in Europe, with a growing presence in North and Latin America. Applications include secure cloud printing and document flow control, smart locker management, micropayments and user activity registration.
“Customers want an identity experience that is part of a larger ecosystem, including interactions from the door to the printer, the locker, the workstation and beyond,” said Björn Lidefelt, executive vice president and head of HID. “inepro ID strengthens our ecosystem with their expertise in secure print.”
inepro ID’s offering includes credential-agnostic readers, software and professional services. Its Spider reader family includes embedded readers for printers and lockers, along with desktop and portable readers for authentication at workstations, digital boards and cash registers.
Marc Bielmann, senior vice president and head of Identification Technologies at HID, said demand for RFID-based secure print is increasing as security requirements strengthen and workplaces shift toward shared, flexible spaces.
“inepro ID brings proven technology and deep expertise in this market and HID brings global reach,” Bielmann said. “Together, we will help more customers protect sensitive documents and authenticate users more easily, across a broader range of credential technologies.”
The acquisition combines inepro ID’s secure print technology and market expertise with more than 25 years of OMNIKEY experience and HID’s global sales, engineering and operational resources. HID said it will support inepro ID customers and partners while continuing the acquired business’s credential-agnostic approach.
Jeroen Pynenburg, CEO of inepro Group BV, said the sale creates opportunities for the ID business’s technology and employees to grow globally. For inepro Group, the transaction also brings renewed focus to smart energy metering and energy intelligence.
“With the Spider reader family, our team has built a strong foundation for smart, reliable and credential-agnostic identification,” Pynenburg said. “We are proud of what we have achieved together.”
