ASSA ABLOY highlights government solutions with expanded platform of PIV-capable locks

DALLAS, Texas, September 27, 2017 — Today’s security landscape has prompted significant changes in the U.S. government. For access control, one of the most significant mandates is to provide Personal Identity Verification (PIV) for federal employees and contractors. In support of the needs of government facilities to upgrade systems, ASSA ABLOY is showcasing a host of new options that support PIV credentials at their booth (#3203) at ASIS 2017.
The PIV standard specifies the architecture and technical requirements for a common identification standard for federal employees and contractors. The goal is to achieve strong authentication for multiple applications by efficiently verifying the identity of individuals seeking physical access to federally-controlled government facilities.
Further government standards set technical guidance and recommendations for the use of PIV Cards in physical access control systems (PACS), enabling federal agencies to operate as government-wide interoperable enterprises.
ASSA ABLOY meets these standards with several new offerings for access control locks from ASSA ABLOY Group brands. On display at ASIS 2017 are:
- SE LP10-F Integrated Wiegand Access Control Locks from ASSA ABLOY Group brands Corbin Russwin and SARGENT
- Access 600 and Harmony Integrated Wiegand Access Control Locks from ASSA ABLOY Group brands Corbin Russwin and SARGENT
- HES KS200 Integrated Wiegand Server Cabinet Lock
- IN120 and IN220 WiFi and Power over Ethernet (PoE) Access Control Locks from ASSA ABLOY Group brands Corbin Russwin and SARGENT
This broad range of locks allows government facilities to enforce strong authentication protocols at main entry points into the building and extend their PACS to interior openings at a lower cost by using WiFi or PoE network infrastructure.
“As a result of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 and subsequent directives issued by the Office of Management & Budget, the federal government tightened its security procedures and directed the issuance of PIV credentials to all federal government employees and contractors,” said Jeff Huggins, Director of Government Programs for ASSA ABLOY Door Security Solutions. “There are approximately 6 million PIV credentials used at federal facilities. It’s essential to be able to use those credentials throughout the facilities, with a lower cost infrastructure than the main entry points.”
At exterior doors where strong authentication is required, government facilities can use the broad range of electro-mechanical locks, electric strikes and HID pivClass card readers for hardwired applications. These locks work with HID Global’s pivCLASS Authentication Module, Validation services, and leverage HID Global’s Secure Identity Object (SIO™) digital credential technology to provide advanced security and performance.
The IN120 WiFi and IN220 PoE locks are perfect for interior spaces where government customers and contractors want to use their PIV, PIV-I or CIV cards cost-effectively, and where users have already passed a perimeter entry point. The KS200 enables access control at individual server cabinets, offering a much greater level of control and auditability needed at any facility, particularly in the government sector.
ASSA ABLOY is collaborating with select Access Control Partners to ensure easy integration with access control systems. The following ASSA ABLOY Access Control Partners is currently undergoing integration efforts to support PIV reads for the IN120 and IN220 locks: RS2, Genetec, Lenel, Open Options, Software House, AMAG, S2, AccessNSite, and Gallagher.
