Sumo Logic Names Chris Malone CEO, Conor Burns CFO to Lead Next Phase of AI Platform Growth
Sumo Logic has named Chris Malone as its new chief executive officer and appointed Conor Burns as chief financial officer, adding two executives to its leadership team as the company works to accelerate growth and expand its agentic AI-powered platform for security and cloud operations teams.
Malone brings more than 20 years of experience leading mission-critical software companies through periods of growth and transformation. He joins Sumo Logic after spending 12 years at Applause, where he most recently served as CEO after previously holding the roles of president and CFO. During his tenure, he helped scale the company's software testing and digital quality business.
"Sumo Logic has a clear market advantage: a trusted AI-first platform, a strong partner ecosystem, loyal customers, and employees who are passionate about the mission," Malone said. "Telemetry will fuel the agentic era, and Sumo Logic sits at the center of that, translating massive amounts of data into the context AI agents need to act with confidence. Our Dojo AI agents use that foundation to help customers stop modern threats and improve system performance by putting AI to work across security and observability."
Burns joins Sumo Logic after serving as senior vice president of operations at Applause. He previously served as CFO of EPFR and held several finance leadership positions at Applause, including vice president of finance. His previous experience also includes roles at SSRX, Ciber, HP and Liberty Mutual.
Mark Ties, senior operating partner at Francisco Partners and chairman of the board at Sumo Logic, said Malone brings the strategic vision needed to help the company fulfill its mission of making "the digital world secure, fast, and reliable in the agentic era."
Evan Daar, deal partner at Francisco Partners, said the additions of Malone and Burns, together with the existing leadership team, will help Sumo Logic deliver AI innovations that provide value to customers and partners.
The company said enterprises are increasingly adopting AI, positioning Sumo Logic as an intelligence layer between enterprise telemetry and AI-powered decision-making. Its unified platform processes operational and security data generated across modern environments, enriching and correlating telemetry to produce insights for security and cloud operations professionals as well as AI agents.
Under Malone's leadership, the company said it plans to continue building the context and agentic layers of its platform to help organizations move from AI experimentation toward autonomous security and operations. Sumo Logic also plans to share more details about its Dojo AI platform at Black Hat USA, scheduled for Aug. 3-6 in Las Vegas.
