HID Joins FIDO Alliance Board of Directors to Advance Passwordless Authentication

Sean Dyon will serve as HID’s primary board delegate as the company contributes to standards development, interoperability and enterprise passkey deployment.

HID has joined the FIDO Alliance Board of Directors, with Sean Dyon, vice president of the company's Authentication Business Unit, serving as its primary board delegate.

The appointment expands HID's involvement in the Alliance as enterprises move from limited passkey pilot programs to broader deployments, bringing increased attention to interoperability, lifecycle management and the integration of physical and digital identity systems.

“HID has been a longtime and valuable contributor to the FIDO Alliance, and we're pleased to welcome them and Sean Dyon to our Board,” said Andrew Shikiar, executive director and CEO of the FIDO Alliance. “As enterprises scale passkey deployments, HID's perspective on converged physical and digital identity will help us bring the security and usability benefits of passkeys to a wider range of environments.”

The FIDO Alliance develops open authentication standards supporting passkeys and passwordless sign-in. Passkeys built on FIDO standards provide phishing-resistant authentication by eliminating the transmission of reusable passwords and binding authentication to a specific device and origin.

As a board member, HID will participate in governance and strategy discussions that help shape the Alliance's standards and certification priorities. The company will focus on enterprise requirements involving converged identity, lifecycle management and interoperability across multiple vendors.

HID has been a FIDO Alliance member since 2015, contributing to working groups addressing FIDO2, digital credentials and consumer deployment. The company has also collaborated with the Alliance on research examining identity security and convergence and develops FIDO-certified authenticators and authentication platforms for enterprise and government users.

According to a joint FIDO Alliance and HID report, 93% of organizations are at some stage of passkey adoption, while 65% report high or expert familiarity with the technology.

Dyon said HID intends to draw on its experience in physical and digital identity to help the Alliance address challenges associated with enterprise passwordless authentication deployments, particularly lifecycle management and interoperability. He also emphasized the company's commitment to advancing open authentication standards as organizations expand their use of passkeys.
