Dr. Anil K. Jain joins ROC’s Board of Directors to provide scientific guidance as the company advances its Vision AI platform and identity intelligence capabilities.

Rank One Computing Corporation, doing business as ROC, has appointed Dr. Anil K. Jain to its Board of Directors, effective Oct. 5, 2026. Jain is a recognized authority in pattern recognition, computer vision and biometrics whose research has helped shape identity technologies used in government, security and commercial applications worldwide.

ROC, a U.S. provider of Vision AI technology, develops unified biometric, video analytics and digital evidence solutions. Jain’s appointment comes as the company advances its Vision AI platform and expands its identity intelligence capabilities across national security, public safety and commercial markets.

“Dr. Jain has helped define how modern biometric technology is built, measured, and put to use,” said B. Scott Swann, CEO of ROC. “His expertise is strategically aligned with the fundamentals of our Vision AI platform and strengthens our resources to advance our multimodal biometrics, identity intelligence, and biometric security.”

Jain brings five decades of experience in computer science and engineering research, including foundational work in pattern recognition, biometrics, computer vision and machine learning. His research has been patented, licensed and deployed in operational environments.

ROC Co-Founder and Chief Scientist Dr. Brendan Klare said Jain’s scientific and engineering contributions have influenced the technologies, institutions and researchers advancing the field.

“As ROC builds the next generation of identity intelligence, we are honored to receive steady guidance from a fundamental leader in pattern recognition and biometrics whose rigor, practical perspective, and lifelong commitment to meaningful impact have shaped so much of the field,” Klare said.

Jain said ROC’s focus on biometrics and identity intelligence aligns with his career-long emphasis on applying research to real-world challenges. He plans to contribute his experience as the company expands its technology capabilities and pursues its long-term growth strategy.

Jain spent most of his career at Michigan State University, where he began working in 1974. He currently serves as a University Distinguished Professor and has authored numerous research papers and 15 books, including Introduction to Biometrics, Handbook of Face Recognition, Handbook of Fingerprint Recognition and Algorithms for Clustering Data. He also holds a dozen patents.

His professional background includes serving as editor-in-chief of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence. Jain was elected to the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and served on multiple U.S. National Academies panels focused on face recognition technology, information technology, biometrics and improvised explosive devices.

He has also served on the United States Defense Science Board, the Forensic Science Standards Board and the AAAS Latent Fingerprint Working Group. Throughout his career, Jain has mentored researchers and industry leaders who have contributed to the development and commercialization of biometric and AI technologies worldwide.

Jain holds a Bachelor of Technology from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, as well as a master’s degree and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from The Ohio State University.
