Marketing Matters: Every Industry Retargets You....Except Ours

Retail, travel, software, and B2B all follow warm prospects around the internet. The security industry doesn't, and that gap is the opportunity.

Key Highlights

  • Retargeting gives security dealers a way to stay visible through commercial and government sales cycles that run months or years – following warm website visitors across Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn for a spend that typically caps at a few hundred dollars a month.
  • As of December 2025, Google requires only 100 tracked visitors to activate retargeting, removing the barrier that kept smaller dealers out – and with almost no security integrators running retargeting today, the first local dealer to appear consistently in a prospect's feed looks like the established national player.
  • The 24-hour entry point requires no budget: install the Google tag, Meta Pixel, and LinkedIn Insight Tag today, add a consent banner, and the audience begins building before a dollar is spent – with frequency capping, a 60–90 day window, and customer exclusions handling the rest.

Amazon does it. Wayfair does it. Every hotel chain does it to you daily. You look at one thing and it follows you for a week. Now name one security company that does the same. You can't – and that silence is your opening. Retargeting is the cheapest way a security company can look as omnipresent as ADT locally, and you can start today for free.

Here's the problem it solves. Residential can be a one- or two-call close, but commercial, industrial, and government sales cycles run weeks, months, sometimes years. Meanwhile, your prospect gets hit with hundreds of ads a day and you get forgotten. Then comes the real killer: a prospect goes hot, then life happens. A budget freeze. A reorg. A family emergency. Months later they're ready to buy, and they call whoever's front and center. That's rarely you – and your salespeople can't spend their days manually re-warming every lead that went quiet.

Two myths keep dealers on the sidelines. First, that retargeting is only for big budgets. Second, that it's creepy. Both are wrong. You're not buying strangers; you're re-warming people who already found you, for pennies. Your website pixel builds an audience of warm visitors, and you follow only those people across Google, Facebook, and – if you sell commercially – LinkedIn. Because that local audience is small, your spend caps itself naturally, usually at most a few hundred dollars a month. As of December 2025, Google requires only 100 tracked visitors to start. The barrier that kept small dealers out is gone.

You don't need a case study to believe this works. The proof is in your own browser. You looked at a jacket once and it chased you for a week. You know exactly how retargeting feels, because you've been the target a thousand times.

Walk the ISC West floor and count how many exhibitors are retargeting you afterward. The number is close to zero. In a market where none of your local competitors show up in the feed, the dealer who does looks like the established national player – for a few hundred dollars a month.

Here's the purple cow. Every industry that wants your money already does this: retail, travel, software, B2B. Ours doesn't. Walk the ISC West floor and count how many exhibitors are retargeting you afterward. The number is close to zero. That absence is the whole opportunity. In a market where none of your local competitors show up in the feed, the dealer who appears in a prospect's Facebook and Google for three months straight looks like the established national player – for a few hundred dollars a month. "Not creepy" isn't a personality trait. It's a settings decision.

Here's your 24-hour playbook. Today, for free, install the tags: the Google tag, the Meta Pixel, and the LinkedIn Insight Tag if you sell commercially. Your audience starts building before you spend a dollar. Also today, add a consent banner so your pixels wait until a visitor clicks "Accept" – do it regardless of your state, and confirm the specifics with your legal counsel. Asking permission before you follow anyone is the entire "not creepy" ethic in one move. Then set three guardrails: cap frequency at three to five views a week, keep your window to 60–90 days, and exclude anyone who's already a customer. Start on Google or Facebook, and skip LinkedIn unless it's commercial.

The whole internet already retargets your prospects. The only question is whether you show up in that feed – or your competitor does. Install your tags this week. That's the entire cost of entry.
