Grant to be used to upgrade school’s school surveillance system and reinforce core values

Alexandria, VA/Chicago, IL (September 6, 2019) — Chicago’s DeWitt Clinton Elementary School was honored today as the recipient of the 2019 School Security Grant from ASIS International and the ASIS Foundation, which includes a $20,000 grant and in-kind donations from sponsors including Axis Communications.

The grant—which is part of the ASIS Security Cares program focused on giving back to the communities where the annual Global Security Exchange (GSX) event is hosted—helps fund the purchase and installation of security equipment at a local school building and/or campus. This year, DeWitt Clinton will be receiving security cameras from Axis Communications, surveillance software from Genetec, and recording servers from BCDVideo in addition to the cash award from ASIS, bring the combined total to approximately $60,000.

“Clinton Elementary School has three core values—be respectful, be responsible and be safe,” says Maureen Delgado, DeWitt’s principal. “With the help of a new camera system, students and community will notice the school reinforcing our Core Values. The feeling of additional safety will result in a better learning environment.”

DeWitt Clinton Elementary School will use the grant money to ensure that all areas of the school are monitored by video surveillance cameras and a video management system.

“We are excited to award this much-needed grant to DeWitt Elementary School,” says Christina Duffey, CPP, 2019 ASIS President. “More than $320,000 has been given back to local communities through the school security grant program’s inception. We look forward to continuing to help fund the purchase and installation of security equipment improvements to a school building and/or campus through this very important program.”
