How B.I.G.’s flexible designs and knowledge of state regulations helped FedEx obtain the Guard Booth they needed

May 28, 2021: The FedEx “Superhub” distribution center in Memphis, Tennessee sends freight and packages to 375 destinations in six continents each day– making it FedEx’s largest transportation center and one of the largest cargo traffic airports in the world. With FedEx’s commitment to secure transportation solutions, they turned to B.I.G. Enterprises (www.bigbooth.com).

B.I.G.’s expertise in state regulation knowledge helps expedite permitting process

FedEx came to B.I.G. Enterprises with a specific request; they needed a steel guard booth with superior design flexibility to meet the company’s architectural specifications, and code compliance capacities to meet Tennessee’s permitting and energy requirements.

B.I.G. is possibly the only manufacturer who holds a State Modular Building manufacturing license in every U.S. State that requires it. This means B.I.G. could easily obtain the third-party State Modular Building approval for FedEx, with the State of Tennessee’s Approval insignia affixed to the booth’s interior wall – helping accelerate the permitting process. And with B.I.G.’s modular designs, the unit could be built in accordance with FedEx’s particular architectural stipulations.

B.I.G. manufactured a galvanized steel Guard Booth to FedEx’s unique specifications.

Made with all galvanized steel, the facade of the FedEx Guard Booth features a large front cantilever overhang, continuous exterior insulation encapsulated in the exterior formed and welded architectural metal panels, and a Bright Metallic Silver paint finish– making for an energy-efficient and attractive booth up to par with FedEx’s architectural requirements.

The unit also includes a heavy-duty galvanized steel door hung by rigid steel ball bearing rollers with a lower stainless-steel guide. These doors have stainless steel pull handles welded to the frame, with a mortise lock recessed into the frame with an IC core. The booth’s windows are comprised of tinted tempered dual pane insulating glass and Low-E coating.

The unit’s interior features an acoustic tile drop ceiling with a galvanized steel formed grid welded in place, a galvanized steel floor with industrial tile flooring, and stainless-steel shelving with painted galvanized steel storage cabinets. These components are finished with a high solids polyurethane paint that is impact, face, chemical & graffiti resistant.

For superior visibility, comfortability, and communication capacities, this booth is equipped with the full electrical package: LED lights inside and outside the structure, a ductless split system HVAC with an interior air unit recessed in the ceiling, extensive electrical plus conduits, and boxes for Security, Data & Communications wiring.

This B.I.G. Guard Booth offers the total package: a transportation security booth with class-leading durability, safety, and efficiency features.  And it is prefab, so it’s literally plug and play when delivered to the site, allowing FedEx to keep in budget and on time.

As one B.I.G. customer stated: “We chose B.I.G. because of a combination of price, delivery time frame, and product quality. With the convergence of all three things, B.I.G. was a clear winner.”
