Security Guard Shoots Man outside Chattanooga Club
Staff Report
A security guard critically wounded a man early Sunday following an altercation at a Brainerd nightclub, according to Chattanooga Police Department spokesman Tetzel Tillery.
The incident occurred about 3 a.m. across the street from Club Deep Blue at 3201 Brainerd Road, Officer Tillery said.
He said police were called to the scene by Carecio Moody, 25, a security guard at the club who said he had shot Antroil Jones.
Witnesses told investigators that Mr. Jones, 27, twice tried to re-enter the club after Mr. Moody had escorted him outside for having caused a disruption, Officer Tillery said.
He said Mr. Moody stated that after the club closed, he was waiting for his car to warm up when Mr. Jones drove alongside in a black Jeep Cherokee.
Mr. Moody claimed Mr. Jones rolled down a window of the Jeep, began yelling and pointed a gun, Officer Tillery said.
Mr. Moody said he pulled his own weapon and fired several shots into the Jeep, and one bullet hit Mr. Jones in the chest, Officer Tillery said.
Mr. Moody called 911 and flagged down a passing car, the officer said.
A Hamilton County EMS ambulance carried Mr. Jones to Erlanger hospital, where he underwent surgery, Officer Tillery said.
Mr. Jones' condition Sunday afternoon was listed as critical, Officer Tillery said.
No charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation, Officer Tillery said.
