Police Investigate Leads in Death of Campus Security Guard
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police reported no new developments Friday in the investigation of a security officer who was killed Wednesday night at Virginia Wesleyan College.
Police did not release any further details of how Walter Zakrzewski, 57, of Norfolk was killed.
No suspects have been identified, but investigators are pursuing leads, said police spokesman Jimmy Barnes.
The homicide investigation began Wednesday night, after many students had left campus for a two-day fall break. Zakrzewski, known on campus as "Officer Wally," was found dead outside Boyd Dining Hall at about 11:30 p.m.
Detectives interviewed students who were inside the buildings when the killing occurred. It was the first homicide in the school's 40-year history.
Zakrzewski had been working as a campus security officer for three months.
