Platinum Tools Debuts Fiber Optic Launch Cables for Technicians

Platinum Tools’ OTDR launch cables feature micro armored fiber and rugged exterior cases for job site use.
Platinum Tools has announced the launch of its new Fiber Optic Launch Cables for OTDR testing during CEDIA Expo 2026, taking place Sept. 2-4 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. The company is showcasing the cables at booth #1123 and said they are now shipping.
The cables are designed to help technicians troubleshoot and certify fiber optic links. According to Platinum Tools Product Manager Sean Rothermel, the cables eliminate “dead zones” in OTDR testing by providing a buffer length of fiber before the event under test, supporting accurate measurement of insertion loss and reflectance.
“They are ideal for technicians and installers working on fiber optic cable tests in pro AV, fieldwork, data centers, and telecom applications,” Rothermel said.
Compatible with Platinum Tools’ mini OTDR and Copper Tester, the Fiber Optic Launch Cables are available in 150-meter, 500-meter and 1-kilometer lengths. They are offered in two configurations and include a variety of UPC, APC, SC and LC adapters for testing nearly any single-mode fiber optic cable.
The launch cables feature micro armored fiber and rugged exterior cases designed for job site use. MSRPs range from $266.67 to $650 based on length and configuration.
