Milestone Systems has announced XProtect 2026 R2 and fall 2026 updates to its Arcules cloud video security platform, introducing new capabilities aimed at improving incident response, simplifying system administration and strengthening operational resilience across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments.
The updates address challenges associated with expanding video security deployments, where growing numbers of cameras, devices and locations can make it increasingly difficult for operators to interpret information and administrators to manage systems efficiently.
XProtect 2026 R2 adds tools to provide greater context around security incidents while reducing the administrative workload associated with large, distributed installations. Meanwhile, the latest Arcules updates focus on resilience, operational insight and secure communication across cloud and hybrid environments.
“Our customers are managing more cameras, more sites and more information than ever, and they need that complexity to work for them rather than against them,” said Andrew Burnett, CTO of Milestone Systems. “With XProtect 2026 R2 and the latest Arcules updates, we’re giving operators clearer context when incidents happen and giving administrators simpler ways to keep growing systems secure, current, and reliable, however they choose to deploy.”
Adding Context to Security Incidents
Among the additions to XProtect is Maps, which brings cameras, alarms, connected devices and live video together through geographic and floor plan views. The capability is intended to help operators navigate complex environments such as campuses, hospitals and airports, where hundreds or thousands of cameras can make locating an incident more difficult.
Through Maps, operators can identify where an event is occurring, locate nearby cameras and access live video directly from the map. The feature is intended to support faster responses and improve situational awareness. Maps will be available in future XProtect Smart Client releases.
XProtect 2026 R2 also introduces Sticky Notes, allowing users to attach notes to individual camera views within XProtect Smart Client. The notes can capture site-specific information, shift handover details and operating instructions. Color-coding options help communicate priority while administrators can manage and configure notes centrally through the XProtect Management Client.
Simplifying Administration Across Large Deployments
The XProtect updates also introduce tools to help administrators manage expanding systems with less manual effort.
Server Logs centralizes audit, system and rule logs generated throughout the XProtect environment. The feature provides administrators with a consistent way to review system activity, troubleshoot issues and support compliance reporting. It also integrates with preferred monitoring and third-party log management systems.
Another addition, Permission Inheritance, automatically applies existing group access permissions to newly added cameras and devices. This allows administrators to establish permissions once and maintain consistent access rules as installations expand.
Extending System Management Through Milestone Care
Milestone also emphasized the role of Milestone Care in helping customers maintain and extend the value of their XProtect deployments.
Available through Care Plus, XProtect Remote Manager provides partners and end customers with secure, browser-based oversight of multi-site XProtect installations. The tool delivers system health updates in seconds, helping teams identify and prioritize actions needed to maintain system performance.
Arcules Updates Focus on Resilience and Operational Insight
The fall 2026 Arcules updates introduce several capabilities aimed at improving cloud video security operations and supporting hybrid deployments.
Cloud Backup for Edge Gateways adds off-site video retention by uploading a lower-resolution secondary video stream to the cloud. The approach improves resilience while limiting bandwidth and storage requirements.
Arcules also adds an integration with Triton Sensors, bringing environmental and occupancy data together with video and event information. The integration allows users to create alarms, rules and video-linked sensor events within a single platform.
Additional updates include Secure Device Communication, which automatically encrypts communications between gateways and supported cameras using HTTPS. The feature protects video and credentials without requiring additional configuration.
Faster Local Video Streaming improves stream startup times and provides smoother multi-camera viewing and playback, including in complex network environments.
For hybrid deployments, Arcules-XProtect operational enhancements introduce safer upgrades, improved diagnostics and role-based alarm access.
As a continually updated cloud service, Arcules delivers new capabilities automatically without requiring Milestone Care.
Together, the XProtect 2026 R2 release and fall 2026 Arcules updates expand Milestone's capabilities across on-premises, cloud and hybrid environments, with an emphasis on providing operators with greater incident context and administrators with more efficient tools for managing growing security systems.
