ProdataKey (PDK) has introduced Geofencing, a new feature in PDK.io designed to add location-aware security capabilities to mobile credentials.

The new feature allows administrators to create a virtual boundary around a site or system. When Geofencing is enabled, mobile credentials can be configured to work only when a user’s device is within a specified distance of the designated location. According to PDK, the feature gives administrators additional control over when mobile credentials can be used while maintaining the convenience of mobile access.

PDK said the capability is intended to enhance security, reduce the risk of credential misuse and modernize the mobile access experience through policy-driven enforcement within PDK.io. The company also noted that the feature is scalable for systems using either a single Cloud Node or Cloud Nodes deployed across multiple sites.

“Geofencing adds a layer of real-world awareness to PDK Mobile Credentials,” said Couper Sorenson, Senior Product Manager at PDK. “By letting PDK.io respond automatically when someone enters or leaves a defined area, dealers and site managers can trust that access is granted at the right time and in the right place. Within the PDK Access App, it also creates peace of mind, allowing users the convenience of a tap-to-unlock experience while ensuring access only works when the user is physically where they’re supposed to be.”

Geofencing is configured within PDK.io through Access Rules and can be applied to mobile credentials issued through the PDK Access app. The feature supports adjustable geofence distances for different property types and deployment environments.

According to PDK, Geofencing requires PDK Access app credentials, enabled mobile location services and 2.4.x Cloud Nodes or higher. The company added that the feature relies on standard mobile GPS accuracy, with precision varying based on environment, signal strength and device capabilities.
