Squire North America is highlighting its KeyKeep mechanical key-safe lineup as an option for locksmiths helping property professionals manage authorized physical-key access when electronic entry methods are unavailable.

The four-model range includes wall-mounted and portable configurations for property managers, landlords, rental operators, residential brokerage teams and homeowners. The key safes provide a designated location for backup keys to support access during cleaner visits, contractor appointments, vacant-property inspections and urgent maintenance calls.

KeyKeep uses mechanical combination operation and does not require batteries, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth pairing, a mobile app or a subscription to open the safe.

“Locksmiths understand that the access plan has to work beyond the initial installation,” said Jerry Burhans, commercial sector director for Squire North America. “Customers need to know where the backup key is, who can retrieve it and how access will be managed. KeyKeep gives locksmiths a straightforward product to support that conversation.”

Four models for different access requirements

The KeyKeep lineup features durable die-cast construction, weather-resistant covers and locally recodable combination mechanisms. The products carry a published 10-year guarantee.

The KeyKeep 1 is a wall-mounted key safe with a four-wheel recodable mechanism offering 10,000 possible combinations. The KeyKeep 1PB provides the same combination format in a portable configuration with a shackle for attachment at approved locations.

The KeyKeep 2 is a wall-mounted model featuring a 12-button recodable mechanism, 4,000 possible combinations and an automatic reset feature. The portable KeyKeep 2PB offers the same push-button features with a lockable shackle.

Wall-mounted models provide a consistent key-storage location for ongoing use while portable models allow flexibility when the approved storage location needs to change.

A product and service opportunity for locksmiths

The KeyKeep range gives locksmiths an additional option for customers coordinating property access and physical-key backup arrangements. Professional selection should account for the keys being stored, mounting surface, attachment point, weather exposure and frequency of use.

Locksmiths can help customers choose an appropriate model, follow installation instructions and establish processes for changing combinations and returning keys.

“For customers comparing key safes, the conversation should extend beyond the purchase price,” Burhans added. “Construction, weather protection, mounting and recoding all matter. Squire brings more than two centuries of lock-making experience to a product category that plays an everyday role in property operations.”

Property managers can change combinations locally as employees, vendors and access requirements change. Squire recommends establishing a designated person responsible for limiting code distribution, changing combinations when authorization ends and verifying that keys are returned.

KeyKeep can also complement electronic entry systems when the door hardware permits physical-key access. However, customers who require remote credential revocation, scheduled access or automated activity records should select systems that provide those capabilities.
