Alcatraz Introduces RockOS, Rock Cortex for Facial Authentication Platform
Alcatraz has introduced official names for the two software layers supporting its Rock family of facial authentication devices, while outlining several platform enhancements planned for general availability in October.
RockOS is the firmware that powers the Rock device family, including enrollment, liveness detection, authentication and tailgating detection. Rock Cortex is the platform that handles verification, users, device management, integrations, monitoring, analytics and compliance across a deployment.
The company announced the names during GSX 2026, held Sept. 14-16 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. Alcatraz said the underlying technologies were already part of its facial authentication offering and that the announcement formally establishes the RockOS and Rock Cortex names.
The company's Rock X device performs facial authentication on-device and in real time. It can operate as a standalone authentication method at an entry point or serve as an additional authentication factor alongside an existing credential. According to Alcatraz, biometric images are not transmitted or stored in the cloud. Instead, the system uses encrypted mathematical templates that the company says cannot be reverse-engineered.
Rock X also provides tailgating, piggybacking and impersonation detection. For tailgating detection, the device uses computer vision to monitor entry points for multiple people and can send alerts with photographic evidence to security teams. It also supports automated lockdown protocols for high-security areas.
Alcatraz said Rock X supports two-factor authentication using a face and badge as well as three-factor authentication using a face, badge and PIN. The company said authentication can be completed in less than one second.
October enhancements planned
Alcatraz also outlined three enhancements to its platform that are planned for general availability in October 2026.
A new Field of View Adjustment feature will allow administrators to remotely adjust a Rock device's camera field of view through the dashboard using a live image from the device. The capability is intended to allow camera zones to be configured without requiring administrators to make adjustments at the installation site.
The company also plans to increase profile capacity to as many as 100,000 user profiles per deployment. According to Alcatraz, the expanded capacity is designed for large enterprises and campuses that can otherwise require multi-device configurations because of existing capacity limits.
A third enhancement will introduce a guided enrollment process that does not require users to move or tilt their heads. Alcatraz said the change is intended to speed onboarding and reduce failed enrollment attempts.
Access control integrations
Rock X integrates with existing access control systems through Wiegand and OSDP protocols. Alcatraz lists C•CURE, Software House, Genetec and Lenel among the platforms supported for cloud or on-premises deployments.
During GSX 2026, Alcatraz demonstrated Rock X and its related technology with several partners. Rock X was shown with Smarter Security's Glassgate 250 optical turnstile, RightCrowd's identity and access workflows, Gunnebo entrance security solutions and ColorID access control and turnstile solutions. Alcatraz also demonstrated Rock technology with Boon Edam's Circlelock security revolving door and Rock X on its Tourlock mantrap portal.
