A driver uses a vehicle dashboard interface powered by CarPlay or Android Auto to lock or unlock a Kwikset smart lock before arriving home.
Kwikset, a residential security leader and registered trademark of ASSA ABLOY Americas Residential Inc., an ASSA ABLOY Group Company, has announced a smart lock integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, allowing homeowners to lock or unlock their doors directly from their vehicle’s dashboard.
The integration extends the functionality of the Kwikset app into the in-car environment, enabling drivers to manage access to their homes before exiting their vehicles. Once a smartphone is connected to the vehicle either wired or wirelessly, the Kwikset app appears alongside other supported apps within the CarPlay or Android Auto interface.
From the vehicle display, users can select their home and tap to lock or unlock compatible Kwikset smart locks. Compatible devices connected through the Kwikset app automatically appear within the dashboard interface, providing a centralized view for managing multiple homes and locks. Access through the integration is available to homeowners and administrators connected to the Kwikset app.
“Homeowners want simple, convenient ways to manage access to their homes, especially during everyday moments like arriving in the driveway,” said Anujothi Dinakaran, software product manager at Kwikset at Kwikset. “By bringing the Kwikset app to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, we are extending smart lock control to the car and giving users an easy way to unlock or secure their door before they step outside.”
The company noted that the integration builds on its focus on intuitive smart home solutions that combine security with ease of use. By expanding app functionality to the vehicle dashboard, Kwikset aims to provide homeowners with an additional method to manage access as part of their daily routines.
