Acoem has appointed public safety and physical security technology veteran Mike ODea as managing director of its Acoustic Threat Detection business, putting him in charge of efforts to expand adoption of the company’s acoustic detection technology.

ODea brings more than 20 years of experience in public safety and physical security, with a focus on emerging technologies designed to improve situational awareness and decision support. His background includes leading major video surveillance deployments and complex security integrations, including projects that combined data from multiple technologies to support operators and first responders.

At Acoem, ODea will lead growth of the company’s Acoustic Threat Detection business and work to expand use of its technology among systems integrators, public safety agencies and enterprise security organizations.

Molliex said ODea's understanding of both the technology and operational challenges facing customers positions him to build on Metravib's acoustic expertise and expand adoption of Acoem ATD within physical security environments.

Acoem's ATD technology builds on more than 30 years of acoustic technology development for military defense applications by Metravib defence in its Protection Division. The system uses edge-based AI to detect and locate gunfire at the sensor. It can then immediately direct a PTZ camera toward the source, providing security teams with visual information alongside the initial detection.

ODea said his experience bringing together different technologies for public safety and security organizations was a key factor in joining Acoem.

“I’ve spent much of my career bringing technologies together to give public safety and security teams better information when they need it,” ODea said. “That’s what drew me to Acoem ATD.”

He pointed specifically to the ability to detect and locate gunfire, direct existing cameras toward the source and provide real-time information to those managing the response.

“There is a significant opportunity to make acoustic threat detection a more established part of the security technology stack, and I’m looking forward to working with our integrator and technology partners to make that happen,” ODea said.

ODea will make his first major industry appearance with Acoem ATD at GSX 2026, where the company is exhibiting at booth 4366 and showcasing its latest acoustic threat detection capabilities.
