Casinos Bet on RFID-Enabled Gambling Chips

System would allow them to track the movement of the ever present chips
May 19, 2005

Casinos are becoming more interested in radio frequency identification technology, or RFID, which allows them to track the movement of gambling chips. The device, a chip placed within a chip, communicates to casino operators, through radio frequency, details that include players' average bets. RFID is already being used by Wal-Mart Stores Inc to track product movements from factories to store shelves. The use of RFID on casino chips also helps prevent counterfeiting and theft.
