Totem has announced a partnership with Milestone Systems that combines Milestone’s video management software (VMS) with Totem’s 24/7 remote monitoring capabilities to help security providers and monitoring centers expand their video-based security services.
The partnership brings together Milestone’s open-platform XProtect video management software and Totem’s human monitoring capabilities to help turn video intelligence into active security operations. The collaboration is intended to address the growing challenge of managing increasing volumes of video while ensuring security events are reviewed, verified and acted upon.
Milestone’s XProtect platform supports a broad range of cameras, devices, applications and integrations through its partner ecosystem. The company’s Technology Partner Program emphasizes verified integrations, technical collaboration and solutions that deliver customer value.
Totem complements that technology with trained monitoring operators, around-the-clock coverage, video verification and scalable monitoring capacity. The company currently supports thousands of cameras across commercial and industrial environments, combining human monitoring with advanced video analytics and other technologies.
“Milestone gives security professionals an exceptionally powerful video management platform. Totem helps make sure that capability doesn’t stop at the screen,” said Luis Fernando Uribe Blum, CEO of Totem. “Our role is to bring the operational side of security into the equation, including trained people, 24/7 coverage, verification, and response. For monitoring centers, that creates an opportunity to take on more video, offer more proactive services, and deliver greater value to their customers without having to build an entirely new monitoring operation themselves.”
Expanding Video Monitoring Operations
As organizations deploy more cameras and expand surveillance coverage, monitoring centers face increasing demands to manage additional alerts, events and video feeds. Security providers are also looking for ways to use video for prevention, verification and real-time response rather than relying solely on recorded footage to investigate incidents after they occur.
Building the infrastructure and staffing needed to support expanded video monitoring operations internally can be expensive and difficult to scale.
Through the partnership, Totem can serve as an extension of existing monitoring teams, providing monitoring professionals who can review events, verify alarms and support response protocols around the clock.
The arrangement allows monitoring centers to expand their video monitoring services without having to develop every component of a 24/7 operation internally.
Supporting Existing Security Infrastructure
The partnership also reflects the companies' emphasis on working with existing security technologies. Milestone's open-platform approach and broad technology ecosystem allow organizations to integrate complementary solutions rather than rely on a single technology stack.
Similarly, Totem's monitoring infrastructure supports a range of security technologies and video platforms. Its services include dedicated monitoring teams, flexible service models, rapid onboarding and scalable monitoring capacity.
For U.S. central stations and monitoring centers, the partnership provides an opportunity to expand video services without taking on the full operational burden of additional staffing, facilities and infrastructure.
Monitoring centers can use Totem's resources to support overnight coverage, video verification, increased camera volumes and customers requiring more sophisticated video monitoring. They can also maintain control of their customer relationships and existing operations while pursuing additional video monitoring opportunities.
As customers add cameras or expand facilities, monitoring centers can increase their monitoring capabilities without necessarily expanding their own staffing and infrastructure at the same pace.
“The security industry has spent years investing in better cameras, better analytics, and better video management,” said Uribe Blum. “The next question is how we operationalize all of that intelligence. Our partnership with Milestone allows us to help monitoring centers bridge that gap. We bring the people and operational expertise that turn a sophisticated video environment into an active security service.”
