Netcraft has appointed cybersecurity industry veteran Darren Lee to its board of directors as the company accelerates its growth in Next-Generation Brand and Digital Risk Protection.

Lee brings decades of experience building and scaling enterprise technology and cybersecurity businesses to Netcraft, including more than 14 years at Proofpoint. During his time with Proofpoint, he helped scale the company from less than $100 million in annual recurring revenue to more than $2 billion in ARR and more than 4,000 employees worldwide. Proofpoint also went public through a U.S. IPO during his tenure.

Before joining Proofpoint, Lee served as CEO of NextPage, an information governance company that was acquired by Proofpoint. At Proofpoint, he held several senior leadership positions across key business areas and strategic initiatives.

Netcraft said Lee will bring experience in scaling cybersecurity products, portfolios and go-to-market strategies as the company expands its solutions and global presence.

Netcraft said it is trusted by CISOs and security teams at many of the world’s most valuable companies, largest banks and government organizations to detect and disrupt external threats. The company processes more threat data than any other provider, according to the announcement, and has blocked more than 230 million multichannel threats to date.

The company also said it takes down nearly one-third of the world’s phishing sites. As attackers increasingly use AI to accelerate phishing, brand impersonation and fraud, Netcraft has expanded beyond takedowns into preemptive disruption aimed at dismantling criminal infrastructure before it can be weaponized.

“Netcraft has built something uniquely difficult to replicate: decades of actionable, proprietary threat intelligence combined with direct connections and longstanding relationships with internet infrastructure providers, and the ability to effectively disrupt criminal infrastructure,” Lee said.

Lee added that security leaders have an opportunity to build on that foundation by using innovative tools and capabilities to identify more proactive ways to protect brands and customers.

Netcraft CEO Ryan Woodley said Lee brings a perspective shaped by both entrepreneurship and experience scaling a major cybersecurity business.

“Darren has a rare perspective in cybersecurity, as he has built companies as an entrepreneur and then helped scale one of the industry’s most successful security businesses through multiple stages of growth,” Woodley said.

According to Woodley, Lee’s experience expanding product portfolios, building customer value and establishing cybersecurity companies as category leaders will support Netcraft as it enters its next phase of growth.
