New initiative raises awareness of the state’s strong manufacturing industry

Walkersville, MD (December 8, 2016) –The Regional Manufacturing Institute (RMI) of Maryland has recognized Galaxy Control Systems, a leading provider of integrated access control, as a Champion of Maryland Manufacturing. The company was honored for accelerating product/process innovation at RMI’s “Tribute to the Champions of Maryland Manufacturing” event, held November 30th. “As a company that has always been committed to manufacturing all of our hardware and software in the U.S., we are incredibly proud to be honored by RMI as a Champion of Maryland Manufacturing,” said Robert Laughlin, President, Galaxy Control Systems. “By recognizing manufacturers from around the state, RMI has initiated an excellent program for promoting the strength and diversity of Maryland’s robust manufacturing industry.”

Nominated by Jodie Bollinger of Frederick County’s Office of Economic Development, Galaxy was among 10 companies from the county honored at the event, which saw more than 450 manufacturers, RMI partner organizations and political leaders from around Maryland in attendance. In all, 145 companies were recognized as Champions of Maryland Manufacturing and praised for creating a positive image of manufacturing in seven categories: accelerating product or process innovation; increasing growth through visionary leadership; contributing to communities; creating products that improve our lives; creating a positive culture of change management; attracting and engaging STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) students to manufacturing; and employing an inclusive workforce.

Galaxy will be featured in the 2016 RMI Champions of Maryland Manufacturing Yearbook, along with the other 2016 honorees. The yearbook was distributed at the November 30th event, and RMI will also provide copies to legislators, media and educators to kick off its new campaign geared toward correcting misconceptions about and enhancing the image of Maryland’s manufacturing industry.

Founded in 1990, RMI is a non-profit association that provides programs, services and advocacy to represent the interests of manufacturers throughout Maryland.
