NAPCO Security Technologies has released an updated version of its Prima mobile app, adding a redesigned interface, revised security controls and new features for managing connected security and smart home devices.

The Prima v8 update, available beginning Sept. 3 through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, includes redesigned navigation and performance improvements. NAPCO said core functions including system arming, device control and account management have been rebuilt as part of the update.

Security controls now provide clearer entry and exit countdowns along with alarm details and sensor status information. The app also includes enhanced controls for connected lights, locks, garage doors, water valves and thermostats.

Users can manage push, email and SMS alerts through updated activity and notification controls.

Another addition is an Apple Watch companion app that allows users to arm and disarm their Prima security system from their watch. Prima v8 also adds improvements to account management and biometric authentication as well as updates intended to improve app stability, responsiveness and network security.

“Prima v8 represents a major step forward in the overall Prima user experience. With a more intuitive interface, faster performance and enhanced control, this update makes it even easier for customers to stay connected to and manage their security system every day,” said Jim Pless, director of sales, Security & Smart Home.

Existing Prima customers do not need to install a separate app or set up their systems again. Updating the existing NAPCO Prima app carries over user credentials, system configurations and device pairings without requiring devices to be paired again.

NAPCO also positions its Prima Self-Contained Smart Security Systems for multi-dwelling unit applications. The systems do not require prewiring and are designed to simplify system demonstration and management for building and property managers.

Prima also uses self-healing Wi-Fi connectivity, which NAPCO said is intended to maintain system connections while reducing unnecessary service calls and truck rolls.

NAPCO is demonstrating the Prima system and its latest updates at GSX 2026 in Booth #1919.
