SONITROL CORE Shields Raleigh Hotspot With Smart Security

June 24, 2025
SONITROL CORE delivers 24/7 audio-based intrusion detection and remote monitoring for The Bend Bar and State of Beer, helping owners reduce false alarms and secure a high-traffic hospitality venue.

The Bend Bar, a new hospitality concept from the team behind Trophy Brewing, brings together a bar, bottle shop and restaurant across three historic homes in downtown Raleigh, N.C. With a large outdoor area that accommodates up to 400 guests and a 16-seat curved communal table anchoring its indoor space, the venue aims to serve as a vibrant neighborhood gathering spot.

Alongside The Bend Bar is the bottle shop and restaurant State of Beer, with a third concept currently in the works. Together, the businesses represent a complex footprint with high foot traffic, extended operating hours and valuable stock and equipment on-site — all requiring around-the-clock protection.

The owners — Chris Powers, David Meeker and Woody Lockwood — were already familiar with SONITROL, having implemented its solutions at other Trophy Brewing locations. When it came time to secure The Bend Bar and State of Beer, they turned again to SONITROL, this time deploying the SONITROL CORE solution.

Security challenges at a multi-use site

The site posed several security challenges. Its high-value inventory and public-facing design — situated along a street and bordering a rail line — necessitated continuous monitoring. Raleigh city policy imposes escalating fines for false alarms, making it essential that the system could verify intrusions before police are dispatched.

Further, the property’s historic nature demanded a solution that would preserve the aesthetic of the three homes, while also covering expansive outdoor areas and enabling remote access. Suppliers often arrive outside of business hours, and customer access needed to be limited after closing to protect staff-only zones and stockrooms.

Remote monitoring and verified audio detection

SONITROL CORE was selected for its audio-based intrusion detection, which uses impact-activated sensors to alert the security team to unauthorized activity. The system includes a keypad and is managed through the SONITROL Management mobile app, allowing multiple users to remotely arm and disarm the system and monitor activity in real time.

The audio verification capability reduces the risk of false alarms, helping to avoid unnecessary — and potentially costly — police dispatches. Keyholder activity is tracked to ensure that the buildings are opened and closed properly, and supplier deliveries can be coordinated even when owners and staff are off-site.

Peace of mind through proven technology

With SONITROL CORE in place, the ownership team gains continuous protection without needing to be on-site throughout the bar’s long operating hours.

“We needed peace of mind that our buildings and backyard were secured 24/7 from intrusion, while managing supplier deliveries outside of opening hours and reducing the risk of a false police call,” said Powers. “Having worked with SONITROL to secure our other locations, we knew we could rely on them for a versatile and effective solution that allows us to remotely monitor The Bend Bar and State of Beer buildings.”
